Engine Research and Engine Development
An engine is the heart of a motor vehicle. As a consequence, it’s only fitting that we, as the inventors of the automobile, particularly focus our attention on engines. And that’s why the Engine Research and Engine Development units play a central role at Mercedes-Benz Cars. In an exemplary collaboration, they are working on new concepts for engines and combustion processes.

The basic engine comes from current series development, while the supercharger unit is a product of advanced development. Thanks to the dual superchargers, which represent a Diesotto component, the engine delivers 175 kilowatts of power and 400 Nm of torque. The link that connects the two units is the engine developers’ workshop at the Untertürkheim plant, where new gasoline and diesel engines are built and existing engines are improved. Another of this workshop’s highly qualified employees is Dietmar Krieger (left), who works closely with colleagues to put the innovative engine concepts into practice.
