A new way of thinking

“Flexible working-time models play a big role in attracting high potentials and good employees to a company,” says Schwarzenbart. “Flexible setups also lower the number of sick days taken and increase the efficiency of employees who can work in a more versatile way; this arrangement is greatly appreciated at Daimler. They motivate employees and provide the company with important know-how. Last but not least, they help us to adjust more effectively to fluctuations in order volume, and improve communication across different time zones.” |
Ralph Lambright has already made it clear to around 180 employees that diversity is a fact of life, and that success hinges on being able to deal with it. He has held more than a dozen workshops designed to change how people think about diversity, and his unit’s common rooms now have signs displaying rules for behaving fairly at work. These efforts have paid off, he says: “Having 1,100 employees backing you is much better than having to issue orders to them.”
