Shaping Future Transportation:
SafeDrive Technologies
The challenge: Greater safety on the world’s roads
The transportation of people and goods plays a key role in the globally networked economy and is indispensable for the growth and prosperity of every society. Goods transportation is continually expanding, and road transport in particular is registering high growth rates. Experts are predicting an annual global increase in transportation volumes to the order of 2.5 percent on average by the year 2030; this represents double the figure for the year 2000. The goal of accident reduction thus remains ambitious and challenging.
“With our ‘SafeDrive Technologies’ initiative we are launching the world’s safest vehicles on the roads – an ambition that applies to an equal extent to trucks, buses, and vans.”
Andreas Renschler, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG, Head of Daimler Trucks
Trucks and vans are only involved in every seventh accident, according to the German Federal Bureau of Statistics, and buses are seen as the safest road transport medium by far; nevertheless, the consequences of accidents with these vehicles are often all the more serious. This is why we have been pressing ahead with the development of new driver assistance and safety systems.
Road safety is influenced by numerous factors. Road user behavior, vehicle technology, traffic infrastructure, and efficient emergency services all play a role. We are therefore not only concentrating on innovative driver assistance and safety systems, but are also helping the driver to deal with these factors appropriately and effectively.
