smart fortwo
The smart plant in the French town of Hambach (also known as smartville) began production in 1997. The plant's cross-shaped assembly line is ideally suited to the needs of logistics and assembly operations and provides an efficient arrangement for production processes. System partners supply modules, some prefabricated, directly to the assembly line. This in effect reduces transport and logistics requirements to a minimum. But that is not the only reason Hambach is known for environmentally friendly production: the facility also supports the environmentally responsible nature of smart products through its economical and environmentally friendly painting processes, an energy management concept featuring numerous energysaving measures, and the environmentally compatible design of the vehicles themselves.
