Vocational training and professional development
Vocational training and professional development are strategically important factors for sustained corporate success. Accordingly, Daimler promotes lifelong learning for its employees worldwide.
2006 figures, DaimlerChrysler
In 2006, the company’s investments in training and qualification measures in Germany amounted to EUR 212 million (2005: EUR 244 million). At the end of 2006, DaimlerChrysler had 9,352 trainees worldwide, more than 80 percent of whom worked in Germany. In 2006, the number of traineeships offered in the production plants and at DaimlerChrysler’s German headquarters was increased by approximately 5 percent. This process will be continued in 2007, so that the number of traineeships on offer will be maintained at a constantly high level. In this way, DaimlerChrysler is expressing its sense of social responsibility. In view of the strong demand for trainee-ships in Germany, DaimlerChrysler is training more young people than it needs within its own divisions.
Leadership qualification measures for all levels of management, and diverse functional training offered on a Group-wide basis, were integrated in the “DaimlerChrysler Corporate University” (DCCU) in 2006. The DCCU is thus responsible throughout the Group for:
-
leadership and management qualification programs
-
specialist qualification in the corporate functions of Finance, Human Resources, Global Procurement and Compliance, and
-
interdisciplinary qualification and methodical know-how in Germany.
In 2006, DaimlerChrysler invested approximately EUR 7.3 million in its special management programs (2005: EUR 8 million).
For the recruitment of talents, a new cross-divisional trainee program for university graduates by the name of “CAReer” was introduced in 2006. CAReer combines all previous programs for talents into a single talent program and ensures that uniform quality standards are applied in the selection and qualification of suitable candidates. Project assignments support the transfer of knowledge within the Group and the accumulation of professional know-how at the local level. In 2007, approximately 350 participants from all over the world will be given the opportunity to make a start in CAReer.
