Public policy
DaimlerChrysler regards it as its right and its duty to make policymakers aware of the possible effects of planned measures, and to help ensure that the legitimate interests of the company are represented in the political process. Based on a Board of Management decision made in 2006, lobbying activities on behalf of DaimlerChrysler shall be conducted only by or under the direction of the External Affairs and Public Policy department, in accordance with the applicable laws and the Code of Ethics. Discussions with the objective of setting up a globally applicable policy for responsible lobbying are currently under way.
DaimlerChrysler’s promotion of stronger transatlantic ties must likewise be seen in a political context. These are of particular significance in view of the company’s massive investments in the United States and Europe. In 2006, for example, DaimlerChrysler was therefore a partner in the German Marshall Fund’s Brussels Forum – a new, annually held series of meetings for political, business and social leaders. DaimlerChrysler also supports the Center for Transatlantic Relations in Washington D.C. in its annual study of the transatlantic economy, as well as programs at other think tanks. It is in part because of these commitments that DaimlerChrysler is a reliable partner for political decision-makers.
